What is a Christian Science Reading Room?

A Reading Room is a bookstore. It's also a great place to find out about spiritual healing. It has books and resource materials to borrow or buy and offers a quiet place for metaphysical study. You do not have to be a Christian Scientist to use a Reading Room. All are welcome. All Christian Science Reading Rooms are staffed with librarians and attendants who will be happy to give you a tour of the Reading Room and answer any questions that you might have about Christian Science. Reading Room attendants do not proselytize. If you have questions about Christian Science, they are prepared to answer them, but you are free to explore the resources of the Reading Room on your own and at your own pace.

All Reading Rooms have in stock Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science. As well as all of her other writings. In addition, many wonderful biographies are available, written by a wide variety of authors, with fascinating history and insite into the amazing life of Mrs. Eddy.You'll also find copies of the Bible, Bible dictionaries, concordances, and other reference works for Bible study. There are many other writings by Mrs. Eddy as well as books about the Bible and Christian healing written for all ages. Many writings can also be found on cassette tapes and CDs.

Gifts can also be purchased in the Reading Room. Everything from notecards to inspirational books filled with quotations from Mrs. Eddy's writings are on sale. Do you have a child in who would enjoy reading about Jesus. A three part series on the healings of Jesus are available at the Reading Room. A second series for children has started with a book on the life of Paul. Any child would love to recieve one or all of these books. Each book is beautifully illustrated and includes interesting historical facts about the location and culture in which Jesus lived and practiced healing. Get your child started on reading about the healing work of Jesus today!

The Christian Science Publishing Society produces a variety of publications that are all available through the Reading Room. You'll find The Christian Science Monitor, an international daily newspaper which is consistently ranked by professional journalists as one of the top ten newspapers in the world.

It was founded with the mission "to injure no man, but to bless all mankind." The Monitor, which has won numerous Pulitzer prizes since its inception in 1908, includes one short religious article daily.
